    Introduction:

Another day, another Legion in the house. Intel was saying that you are doing too much. Get some AMD stuff. We have brought the AMD Legion Pro 5i, and this Legion features the AMD Ryzen 9 994.
It is a 5.5HX with RTX 5060 and the one that comes with Intel Core Ultra 7. So, you should go for the AMD one and the Intel one. We will cover that thing. Rest, you can go for whichever brand you want to go for. We will quickly start talking about the laptop.

Before starting the laptop, if we explain the hierarchy of Legion, then the top one is Pro 7. There is also 9, we have heard that it will be launched by January-February. Then below that, 7 and 5. Now, 7 has not been released. We have released Legion 5, Pro 5, and Intel, which is now available. This is AMD’s, and Pro 7i is also available Which has Ultra 950/80, and their offerings are very different. The bigger the number, the more Pro targets the Pro users. Then it has specs.

    Specifications:

Let’s talk about the technicalities. This is an AMD Ryzen 9 9955HX processor, which is 16 cores 32 threads. It has dual-channel RAM DDR5 5600Mbps Rtx 5060 8GB VRAM GPU with 115W T, GP 1TB Gen4 SSD with good read and write speed, 2 slots, 1×2242 and 1×2280. So it will be easy to upgrade in the future.

In this laptop, you will get WiFi 7 and Bluetooth v5.4, and Lenovo’s AI chip, which is LA1 and LA3. Basically, Scenario detection is done according to the task you are doing and how you are using the laptop. According to that, CPU and GPU are power divided, which gives you optimum performance. You can’t do anything with an AI chip; it will do whatever it does. You won’t know what will happen with it. You can also buy MS Office 2024.

You have to add some extra whenever you buy from Lenovo’s website and 3 months Xbox Game Pass Ultimate also If you buy a laptop like this on day 1 then gaming will be done otherwise you can do cloud gaming on any device By the way, we have made a dedicated video on cloud gaming, watch it once and before jumping further if you want to.

    CPU Compare:

If you compare it with other competitive CPUs, then its performance is very good. This is the graph of Cinebench R23 scores. If we compare it with Ultra 7, which is the second Legion Pro 5i, it is better in multi-core. Single core is almost similar, and if you compare it with Ultra 9, then there is also only 3% difference in multi-core. And if you want to see competitive GPUs that are already in the market in the 40 series, the 5060 1.15W specifically performs very well in Legion. If you compare it with 4070, then it has identical performance. The rest are other GPUs. Check them out. The more you buy, the more you get.

    Performance & Benchmarks:

Now, Let’s talk about the benchmarks, Cinebench R23 has 35000+ multicore and 2000+ single core You can also see Cinebench 2024’s numbers, Geekbench 6’s numbers are of multicore and single core So, The processor is a flagship according to the laptop, All the CPU intensive tasks, Coding or music production tasks, You can easily do on this laptop, If we talk about AI, You can see the benchmark of Geekbench 6’s AI.
Number of the dial because we have not used it in the GPU Deepsea Caravan’s 32 billion parameter model, which is run using LM studio. This prompt is our personal testing; otherwise, there are many models in the market. Our result came out in 7 minutes and 13 seconds. You can see the token information too; we were comparing it with Intel variants. It took 8 minutes 40 seconds. So, the CPU is better in multicore because in this scenario, the CPU, GPU, and RAM are used. So, you are performing better here.

And if you are a data science student then this laptop will not give you any problem, And coming on to 3D modeling and rendering which has 3600+ Blender benchmark Which is a good score, It has BMW render and output in 20 seconds, So if you want to do any 3D modeling, rendering task or game development, then you can do it easily on this laptop It has 32GB RAM and 5068GB is also a good capable GPU, It can do all the work, Rest the bigger the graphics card, the bigger the system.

Build a PC Ram and SSD are very cheap. For editing and designing, Pzbench for Premiere Pro is Rs 10K+, After Effects is Rs 11K+, DaVinci Resolve is Rs 9800+ And Photoshop is also Rs 10K+. You can use any level of photo editing, video editing, After Effects, and Illustrator.

And for the performance of the graphics, you can see the numbers of 3DMark x Pi, in which the CPU and overall score are also there, and the OpenCL score of Geekbench 6 is also there. It is around 15500, and all these benchmarks are there.

Extreme testing is required. We ran Prime 95 for 1 hour. The temperature reached 88 degrees, and the average is 83 degrees. The clock speed also did not drop much. It reached 4.9 to 3.6. The CPU reached 128 watts and maintained the 120-watt average. The thermal is maintaining the same as the wattage it is pushing. If you see the GPU, it is the same as the Intel GPU. The average temperature was 70 degrees.

Intel Core 7 had a temperature of 106 degrees just because it was drawing powup topto 188W and maintaining the average of 135W. Intel does heat up, AMD is power efficient, so temperatures don’t go high, and it also impacts the battery. So AMD is a power-efficient CPU, and it is giving better performance at low wattage.

    Game Test:

Let’s talk about gaming. We were comparing the FPS on the AMD variant on high settings on Valorant. It is on the same resolution, and this is our CPU-intensive game, and we already knew that it is better. If we talk about GPU-intensive games like Cyberpunk, Same resolution in favour of quality, Same performance on DLSS off, Frame generation is also good.

You can get similar FPS. We tested Alan Wake 2. You can get similar FPS in 1-4 FPS according to the scenarios. If you add ray tracing or frame generation, you get similar performance where GPU-intensive games are available. Let’s see the standalone gaming performance. Once, CS2 is giving 150-160 FPS, which means it will be a buttery game. And it is 1600 FPS, so you can reduce the resolution and settings. Our criteria are the same, so that you can compare.

The game is a 60 FPS locked game. We are testing it on maximum settings, and we get an average of 60 FPS. In gaming, our CPU temperatures go up to 90 FPS. But as such, there is no issue of throttling or rattling because you can see the clock speeds. Next is GTA 5 enhanced edition, which has maximum retracing preset, and it was 50-55 FPS. It has 1600p, don’t forget that.

Then you get Call of Duty Warzone. The average is 60-70 FPS in 1600p extreme settings. If you want to get more FPS, you can reduce the resolution and settings. Then RDR2, in the highest setting, you will get 70-80 FPS in both scenarios. DLSS off and on quality. You will get good FPS. In Cyberpunk, Ultra settings, it is the same as in 50-60 FPS, 60 FPS normally, and 100 FPS in frame generation.

And if you use ultra ray tracing, then raw performance is not playable, but you will get good FPS with frame generation. And this is 2x frame generation. We have told you many times In multi frame generation, where you get very few FPS, we will test it, and we will show you later. Then, Hogwarts Legacy Ultra settings, Raw performance is also playable, 40 average FPS, but with frame generation, it was around 100. Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Raw performance is not that good because it is ultra-high settings, Ray tracing is also very high, and it is 1600p.

You have to apply frame generation to this setting. The Last of Us 2, Very high settings, DLSS off, 50 FPS, frame generation doubles to 100 FPS. Horizon Forbidden West, Very high settings, 50 FPS, DLSS off, frame generation, 10 FPS. Ghost of Tsushima, Raw performance 50-60 FPS, frame generation, 100 FPS.

And on Spider-Man 2, Raw performance was 40 average FPS on very high settings, and on frame generation, it was around 70-80 FPS But, as the rate racing is very high, this game becomes very demanding So, the FPS was not good on frame generation as well, in both cases, the FPS was similar and on Hellblade 2, the raw performance was completely over.

It has 50-60 FPS with frame generation, and we test multi-frame generation in it because it is very demanding, and it has 1600p too. It has 100-120 FPS in both scenarios, like 3x and 4x. Then Black Myth Wukong cinematic, which is the highest setting, can’t play 50-60 FPS on 1600p, but you will get 50 average FPS with frame generation. And if you do ray tracing on a very high level, then both scenarios are not that playable. As it is a demanding game, then multi-frame.

It shows the performance of 3x and 4x with a good frame rate boost, which has very high raytracingnbuttt we don’t recommend it in these games because of input lag. On high settings, it has good FPS, but you get 80-90 FPS with frame generation, and it is good in story games. If you use ultra ray tracing, then it is good. If you use multi-frame generation in this, then you get very good FPS and the game feels smooth.

It is not that hot, it is winter season, and the temperature is around 28-30 degrees. So, it gives a warm feeling. The battery is a big problem. We thought that we would get more battery backup in AMD, but it was similar in Intel. It has a 2.5-hour battery.

If you look at Intel and AMD side by side, then the multi-core tasks will give better performance, CPU-intensive tasks will give better performance, CPU intensive games will also give better performance. But if you look at both the machineries, you won’t feel that much difference.

Acer Predator Helios Neo 16 vs Lenovo Legion Pro 5:

Let’s compare it with a competitive laptop. At this price point, we get Acer Predator Helios Neo 16s. This is basically a slim Predator, which we have reviewed. There is a difference in the display, Predator has a 240Hz refresh rate, it has OLED, but Legion has 165W And Predator has a processor Ultra 7 255HX. If you compare it with Legion’s Ultra 7, then the performance is not the same because Legion’s chassis is bigger and has better thermals. So, you get better performance, but in the GPU. You get 5070W, and Acer Predator has 115W at the same price point.

RAM is a sacrifice because it has 16GB with 1TB storage, and the CPU performance matters on the power draw because the power draw in Predator is less compared to Legion. Legion is up to 135W, Legion has a 24-zone RGB keyboard, Predator has 4 zone and Legion has 4WR extra in battery, Predator has 76WR. So, both have the same weight of 2.3Kg, Predator comes with a slim form factor. If you want a slim form factor, then you can make a choice. Otherwise, you can definitely go with Legion.

ASUS ROG Strix G16 vs Lenovo Legion Pro 5:

It has a direct competition ASUS ROG Strix G16, in which we get Intel Core Ultra 9, it has Ryzen 9, and similar performance. Build-wise, both are very good. ROG has a 4-zone keyboard. It has 24 zone keyboard. You can see what you like more, RGB or FPS.

Strix has 16GB RAM, and at the same price, it gives 32GB RAM. Strix has an IPS display but 240Hz, and Legion has an OLED display but 165Hz. So if your priority is Esports and you want to grind more, then you can choose Strix. If you want OLED color gamut and deep blacks, then Legion is the option.

Both are good in their own way. You can choose any one depending upon your preference.

MSI Crosshair vs Lenovo Legion Pro 5:

If you want a better GPU at this price, then the Crosshair with 5070 GPUs. It has Core Ultra 725 HX. If we talk about the build, then Legion is definitely better in comparison to Crosshair. Crosshair is not finished, but if we compare side by side, we already told you the difference in performance between the two CPUs.

The biggest deal breaker with MSI is 16GB RAM, which is also in dual channel; we don’t understand MSI’s system. Upgradability factor is useless here because if you want to go to 32GB the next day, then you have to sacrifice both the 8GB sticks. Here, Legion has 32GB RAM, which is also in dual channel, but 32GB is more than enough, whether it is for productivity or gaming. The difference in display is that Crosshair has IPS, 240Hz, but Legion has OLED and 165Hz. The major difference is that.

If you compare the score of 3DMark Time Spy, then 5070 performs 13% betterthan 5060 in comparison. Both the GPUs have 8GB VRAM and 115W TGP. But if you compare technically in CUDA, RT, and Tensor cores, then 5070 has the upper edge.

HP Omen vs Lenovo Legion Pro 5:

If you want a 5070 laptop with a good CPU, then you can buy the OMEN variant. It has a variant with RTX 5070, Ryzen 9, but 8940HX. If you compare with 9955HX, the difference is big in multicore. If we talk about build, Legion definitely comes with a better build, Omen’s swing is less, but still Legion doesn’t swing much. Omen has 4 zones RGB keyboard, Legion has 24 zones, and 5060X5060.

We have already told you the difference of 50-70 GPU. Now, Omen has a major catch in the display. If you will see the Amazon listing, it has written 1200p 2K WUXGA with 165W refresh rate, and we have reviewed this Omen. It had 50-60 basically, but it was 16:00 240Hz. We will add a disclaimer here. It was there. You can order this one at 12:00 p.m. only.

Order the 5070 Omen and you know that it has 1600p OLED 165Hz and the battery is similar, 80W in Legion and 83W in Omen and HP has done a great job in RAM, they are giving 24GB single channel in all laptops, Even if it is Victus, Legion has 32GB dual channel, both will perform well in it, So, Omen can be a very good option here.

The current pricing. If the pricing changes later, then it can be up or down, So, Prices may vary.

    Conclusion :

If we conclude this laptop, the Legion series comes with a premium side. Build-wise, performance-wise, Thermals are good, and ports are not disappointing.

If you are using any other laptop, and if you want any other laptop review, we are working on demand and supply. Till then, stay healthy, stay safe, take care.
